PROVO, Utah -- Houston Baptist University freshman Jocques Robinson won the 100 meters and 200 meters and helped the Huskies to a win in the 400-meter relay to earn newcomer of the year honors on the final day of the National Athletic Conference championships Saturday at Brigham Young University. PROVO, Utah -- Jimmy Joseph and Toni Dickerson leaped to victory Friday in the long jump to lead Houston Baptist University at the National Athletics Conference championships at Brigham Young University. Joseph won the men's title with a 7.12 meters/23-4.5 effort, while Dickerson had a lifetime best 5.63m/18-5.75 on her first attempt to take women's top honors.
The HBU athletic department spirit award, named for long-time employee Mildred Boone, who was caretaker to the university’s live mascot Mingo, has been renamed. The award, which recognizes the student-athlete who is the most spirited and best supports his or her fellow athletes, will now be named the Frances Curtis & Mildred Boone Spirit Award.
Houston ---- Houston Baptist University capped off a “Senior Day” sweep with a 10-0 run-rule victory over University of Houston-Victoria. The win gave HBU a four-game winning streak and a series sweep of the Jaguars.
